The Nail Championships Challenges Results
The UK Student Championships is decided by accumulating winning points from various categories in our Novice Tip and Overlay category, Nail Art, Photgraphic and Showcase, thus showing a high standard of practical nail skills. Competitors in this challenge must have been doing nails for less than 2 years and this must be the first time they have ever entered a nail competition.
1st place: Natalja Dolgima
Team Points Accumulator
The new team points accumulator was introduced at our last nail competition in Manchester to encourage competitors to work together as a team, whilst still competing for their own individual titles. Teams can be made up of up to 6 members, from any company, college or even just a group of friends! Everyone needs support during the build up to a competition, so this is a perfect way to seek advice, feedback and critique for your fellow team mates. Points are scored from any 1st 3rd placings from all the categories entered by the team.
1st place: Team EZ Flow – Georgie Smedley, Louise Huggard, Jessica Marks, Vikki Taylor-Dodds, Rebecca Orme, Angela Metcalf.
2nd place: Naughty Nails – Carrie-Leigh Allen and Tamsin Groves.
3rd place: Oscars Lounge – Michelle Brooks, Jade Gellen, Gemma Lambert, Kirsty Lund, Corinne Allen.
Company Points Challenge
The Company Points Challenge is a points accumulator, running now for the 3rd year. Points are accumulated at the Manchester and London competitions by every competitor declaring what company or suppliers products they will be using to compete with, thus gaining that company 1 point. The idea of this Challenge is to encourage product and supply companies to support their technicians and students who wish to enter competitions. Also to let everyone know what products the winners are using!
1st place: Ez Flow
2nd place: NSI
3rd place: Young Nails
UK Nail Art Champion
The Nail Art Champion winner is decided by accumulating winning points over the competition year, available from entering different art categories, at our 2 nail competitions, thus showing an amazing amount of effort and skill. The categories are Fancy French, Nail Art, Showcase Nail Art and Photographic Classic and Nail Art. This proves that they have all round talent in various forms of nail art.
1st place: Vikki Taylor-Dodds
2nd place: Gemma Lambert
3rd place: Pamela Kennedy
UK Nail Champion
The UK Nail Championships winner is decided by accumulating points over the competition year, available from entering 2 different championship heats, at the 2 Professional Beauty nail competitions in Manchester in London. This category is unusual in that all the main nail extension systems are judged together and all the entrants must have previously won a nail extension competition, thus showing an amazing amount of effort and skill to be the winner. We put the best against the best and pushed them to a different challenge.
1st place: Elzbieta Losczyk
2nd place: Carrie-Leigh Allen
3rd place: Kirsty Lund
Why enter a nail competition?
Competitions are a very valuable source of feedback from experienced judges. At most competitions judges are available at the awards ceremony for that all important critique and every competitor in every category, wherever they are placed, always receive a score sheet. This is why many serious nail technicians enter the nail competitions – it isn’t just about the trophy, it’s about pushing their knowledge and skills to the limit, coming out of their comfort zone and rising to the challenge!
It’s your chance to be creative! Most competitions have categories or themes that allow you to push the boundaries. Whether it’s nail art or the new category DIY extensions, natural nails, photographic, student or even a team challenge there is something for everyone whatever your level.
It also makes good business sense; entering the competition will create essential PR and advertising, especially if you are placed. Local press are always delighted to cover your win, giving you much valued and often free advertising for your business. And your clients will be delighted to know that they have a ‘nail competition winner’ working on their nails. Word of mouth soon spreads too!
You can further your career as your reputation in the nail industry becomes more widely known and you will make new contacts. All this can lead to writing magazine articles, offering masterclasses and then taking the next step into judging.
So, why not give it a go, it’s addictive and like many others who have been competing for years, you will get the competition bug too!
